I don't mean boycotting your local gas station or even buying a new car. There are a few keys to getting better fuel efficiency. What are they?
- Convert your to run a hydrogen fuel cell. There are a couple of ways to do this and it doesn't require you going out and spending thousands of dollars. You can either purchase a fuel cell which comes with directions on how to install it. Even if you don't install your cell yourself, it doesn't cost but about $400 to have it installed and you will save that much money on fuel within 3 months guaranteed. The second way to do it is to make the cell yourself. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to do it. Anybody who has access to tap water and a few supplies sold at your local parts store can make one. You can even build them for others and charge up to $700 per cell.
- Properly maintain your vehicle. Don't forget about tuning your car up or changing the fluids. These make the world of difference when it comes to good engine performance and poor engine performance.
- Read about modifications that you can do to your car. You can purchase a couple of sensors off of eBay that make your car think it is running one way and IMPROVE runability. For instance, by bypassing your air intake sensor, you can increase horsepower and performance and the chip needed to perform the mod cost only $3 with $5 shipping off eBay. Yes, it works!
- Keep your cars tires properly inflated. Also rotate and balance tires on their proper schedule. This will minimize the drag on the highway and increase your fuel economy.
- A common myth is that turning off the A/C in the summer will save fuel. That is a myth. It has been proven that if you drive a mid 80's car or later with fuel injection that your computer will compensate power for your A/C. That will make you get the same mileage that you get while the A/C is off.
- Clean your engine's upper end every 3000-5000 miles. This is as simple as buying a $5 can of SeaFoam at your local parts store and applying it to your car per the directions.
Key things to remember:
The fuel cell doesn't cost much and you get tax credits for having one. Also, they can double your mileage saving you a great deal of money on fuel. This comes in handy during a time of recession.
Maintain your car. I can't say this enough. 80% of my customers ask me why their car doesn't get the same performance it did when purchased and this is the reason.
